This year, I have created a team, “Supernauts” in honor and memory of my husband, Don, for the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Don Cossean was a proud and dedicated New York City Police Officer for over 20 years. On September 11, 2001, he didn’t hesitate to head to lower Manhattan when the trade centers were hit. As a first responder, he searched for survivors and spent many hours on the recovery efforts. Don passed away from his 9/11 illness on May 17, 2022.
We are remembering and celebrating Don’s life under the team name “Supernauts.” Black Sabbath was his favorite band, and the song “Supernauts” is all about living life to the fullest and being all you can be. Don did just that for his entire time on earth.
Born from the tragedy of 9/11, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation carries forward a legacy of courage and heroism. Built upon the mantra, “While we have time, LET US DO GOOD,” the Foundation supports our nation’s fallen and catastrophically injured first responders, military heroes and their families.
